Leviticus 23:23-32
23 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
24 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the
first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of
trumpets, an holy convocation.
25 Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made
by fire unto the LORD.
26 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
27 Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of
atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your
souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
28 And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to
make an atonement for you before the LORD your God.
29 For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he
shall be cut off from among his people.
30 And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same
soul will I destroy from among his people.
31 Ye shall do no manner of work: it shall be a statute for ever throughout
your generations in all your dwellings.
32 It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls:
in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate
your sabbath.
The day of Atonement, the most holy day of the Jewish year was yesterday. This day started from 5:00 PM on Friday and concluded at 5:00 PM on Saturday. It is Jewish custom that prior to this day, that anyone that they have wronged during the past year that they are to go and make up with them. I know some people that spend the entire 24 hours in the Synagogue, for they believe that by doing this that their sins will be remitted for the coming year.
Now as Christians, we believe that our sins have been remitted by Jesus Christ the Lord. There is no longer to slaughter a lamb for an atoning sacrifice, for Jesus death on the Cross is the atoning sacrifice for all generations. Jesus' death has paid the price so that we may live.
Romans 5:13-21
13 (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there
is no law.
14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not
sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him
that was to come.
15 But not as the offense, so also is the free gift. For if through the
offense of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace,
which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.
16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was
by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto
justification.
17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which
receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life
by one, Jesus Christ.)
18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to
condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all
men unto justification of life.
19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the
obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin
abounded, grace did much more abound:
21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through
righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
As the apostle Paul wrote, that death reigned upon all by the disobedience of one, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. Jesus is our atoning lamb that was sacrificed from the foundation of the world to enable us to be made righteous in Christ Jesus.
Revelation 5:6-12
6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts,
and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven
horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all
the earth.
7 And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon
the throne.
8 And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders
fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials
full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.
9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to
open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy
blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the
earth.
11 And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne
and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times
ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;
12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive
power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and
blessing.
Revelation 13:8
8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not
written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the
world.
Jesus is the lamb that was slain from the foundation of the world to redeem us from our sins. It is only through his sacrifice that we have a hope of entering heaven. Only Jesus' sacrifice enables us to have grace, peace, and righteousness. It is his righteousness that makes us righteous. It is his sacrifice that has redeemed us from the pit. There is none righteous, no not one, except those that have adapted the righteousness of Jesus Christ the Lord. Jesus has paid the atoning price for our sins and wickedness. He has redeemed us by his precious blood on the cross of cavalry. Without the Jesus, none would be able to enter the glories of heaven, for Jesus paid it all.
There is no salvation without Jesus Christ the Lamb. There is no righteousness without Jesus Christ. Without Jesus, all the fasting and praying you do comes to naught. There are some that have asked me to pray for them, for it seem that their prayers go no further than the ceiling. This is because they are lost and without hope without Jesus. Their prayers don't go any further than the ceiling, for they are not seeking the righteousness of the Lord, rather they are seeking their own pleasures and desires with their prayers. They need the atoning blood of Jesus applied to their life. Without the blood of Jesus, there is no atonement.
Are you lost and without hope? Does it seem that you are fighting God? Now is the day of atonement for you. Now is the day to put on the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Today is the day of salvation, so seek the Lord with your whole heart and ask him to come in and give you peace.
