The strength of the Christian is not in his own ability, or assets, but it is in the Lord. The Lord is the strength of the Christian. Jesus is the one that the Christian gathers his strength from. Jesus is the one who makes the Christian who he is.
Isaiah 40:6-8
6 The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and
all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:
7 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD
bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand
for ever.
Though all of the world thinks they are strong and mighty, but reality dictates that they are really weak. Reality shows that they are really just a paper tiger. The Bible says that they are like a fading flower and as withered grass. People have the habit of being arrogant and strong willed, but with the Lord Jesus they are nothing. Take for instance the rich and powerful men in the world. When the going gets tough, they have a habit of not knowing anything. A prime example is both Bill Gates and Bill Clinton. Both cannot remember a thing, they cannot even recall the use of the English Language. Bill Clinton could not even remember the definition of sex, and Bill Gates did not even know what a browser is.
Though you will say they are following their lawyers instructions in not knowing or recalling anything that pertains to their case, they are behaving the same way that Adam and Eve behaved when questioned by the Lord concerning eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. They both were busy looking for an excuse and pointing a finger. Even nations are all just paper tigers in the eyes of the Lord. There is grave concern about the United States being attacked by a third world country. There are chemical, and biological agents that could destroy the entire western hemisphere. Many third world countries have nuclear weapons that they received from Russia after the demise of the Soviet Union. It could happen that they could fire a multi-nuclear warhead missile at the East coast and destroy this nation.
Those that put their trust in the Lord will not fail. They are not withered grass or a faded flower. Those that trust in the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up as eagles. They shall run and not be weary. Those that trust in their own strength and abilities will find that they fail. They will lose their strength. They will become weary and not be able to run. They will run out of gas and be found on the road of life stopped.
Isaiah 40:10-17
10 Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule
for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.
11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with
his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with
young.
12 Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out
heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and
weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?
13 Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counsellor hath
taught him?
14 With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the
path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of
understanding?
15 Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the
small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little
thing.
16 And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient
for a burnt offering.
17 All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less
than nothing, and vanity.
All nations of the world are less than nothing in the sight of the Lord. In the world where they puff themselves up and think that they are something, when in reality, they are just a drop in the bucket and counted as small dust. The leaders of nations boast great things, but in reality they are here just for a season. They have nothing that can endure. Their strength is found void. They are weak and have nothing. But the strength of the Christian is in Jesus Christ the lord. The strength of a nation is in Jesus Christ the Lord. When a nation rejects the Lord and despises the Lord's righteousness, they are become weak and fade away. Look at the United States. They were once a proud nation professing to be a Christian nation. Today they are weak, crime is escalating, education is declining, and the lust of the eyes and the pride of life is evident everywhere. They are a dying nation that has lost their direction. They elect sinners and adulterers. They choose leaders who speak swelling words of vanity, promising everything while delivering bondage. What has happened to the pride in saying that we are a Christian nation? What has happened to the pride of displaying the Ten Commandments of the Lord? When a nation rejects the Lord, their end is eminent.
Isaiah 40:28-31
28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the
LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary?
there is no searching of his understanding.
29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth
strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly
fall:
31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall
mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall
walk, and not faint.
Those that trust in the Lord have a strong foundation. They shall not faint and become weak. Their strength is in the Lord Jesus Christ. A nation that puts its strength in its own might will fail, but the nation that puts its strength in the Lord will be strong. The individual that trusts in the Lord will maintain their strength and will not fail. Jesus is the true strength of the Christian.
