Daniel6 Cressey (John5, John4, Daniel3, John2, Mighill1) was born in Gorham, Maine, September 4, 1772, married (1) July 4, 1799, Eliza, daughter of Simon and Elizabeth (Cressey) Harding of Baldwin, born May 8, 1780; was educated at public schools and Fryeburg Academy; was noted as the Flintstown beauty. She died May 1, 1829, at 49. He married (2) July 1, 1832, Hannah Harding, sister of his first wife, born March 13, 1797. Mr. Cressey was the leading trader in Gorham for several years. One of his clerks was Toppan Robie, father of the late Governor Frederick Robie, whom he often sent to Boston on horseback with money in his pocket to buy goods - this was about 1800. A few years later he moved to Portland, where he continued in business. He was considered a rich man for those days, being worth about $100,000; was a member of "South Company" muster roll State Militia of Gorham in 1795, with Captain Oliver Hunt. He was a Christian gentleman. He retired and moved to Baldwin, where he built a fine house about 1840; died in Gorham, August 21, 1848, and buried there in 76th year; widow died in Baldwin 1877 at 80. |

Eliza H.7, born July 19, 1800 in Gorham, Mass., married Dr. Henry J. Boynton of Portland in 1827. Her father presented her with one of the first pianos imported from London, England, to Portland. She was talented, set her own compositions to music, and was called the best pianist in the city; died in Baldwin 1885 at 85. |
