Erastus Timothy7 Cressey (Rev. Timothy6 Benjamin5, Daniel4, Daniel3, John2, Mighill1)
born February 4, 1838 in Columbus, Ohio, married:
(1) 1865 Helen F. Carter, of Worthington, Ohio, who died in 1865.
(2) 1868 Julia Pettee Brooks of Roxbury, Massachusetts.
He left school when 14 and served four years, 1852-56, to learn the printers' trade and was the first boy to carry papers in the City of Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 1861 he enlisted in Company H, 2nd Minnesota Infantry, and served until June 16, 1865, when he was honorably discharged. After the Civil War he worked at Cambridge, Massachusetts on the University Press, 1866-7, went to Des Moines, Iowa, and worked on the Des Moines "Register," and later to Mitchellville, Iowa, where he was editor and proprietor of a newspaper. In 1873-5 he was assistant Index Clerk of the House of Representatives in the 43rd Congress, Washington, D.C. In 1889-93 he was assistant Librarian, U. S. Senate, and prepared a catalogue of the tons of books from the beginning of our government, and many missing volumes were found. By this work of special appointment Mr. Cressey made the Senate Library the best of its class in the world for reference, even ahead of its two rivals -- Boston and the British Museum. He and his wife were always active in the Baptist Church. He died February 2, 1917, at 79, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, widow died October 26, 1920.

Clara L.8 (Cressey) Mingus born August 26, 1871 in Des Moines, Iowa, married in 1913 Dr. George W. Mingus, dentist. She was Secretary-Director Woman's Baptist Missionary Society, South Dakota, was supervisor of music. Resides Chicago, Illinois. He died October 7, 1933, in San Antonio, Texas.
