Born July 19, 1825 in Buxton, Maine,
married January 1, 1856, Lucinda Frances Gerry, daughter of Joseph
and Mehitable (Smith) Gerry of Waterboro, Maine, by
Reverend Lewis H. Witham, pastor Free Baptist Church,
Bar Mills, Maine.
He was educated in the public schools of Buxton and lived on the
homestead farm. In 1854 he went to East Boston and worked in the
shipyard, where he learned to hew to the line and was an expert at
the trade. In 1868 he bought the octagon house at Groveville with
23 acres of land from Reverend Charles Bean. He owned another field
of 30 acres. Later he was engaged in the heading, cooperage and
hoop business. Served as school agent and highway surveyor.
For several years he was U. S. mail messenger. Spent his last
years at farming. They were both members North Congregational
Church at Groveville. She died February 28, 1888, at 54.
He died July 3, 1897, 16 days of 72.
